David was born in Wolverhampton, England in 1971. He got his Bachelors degree in Visual Art from the University of Northumbria, and his Masters degree in Computer imaging and animation from London Guildhall University. He has been living and working in Brooklyn, New York since 2002, where he divides his time between painting and teaching at Parsons The Newschool for Design in New York City (Adjunct Professor since 2005). He sold his first painting when he was only 15 years old, and has been exhibited in solo and group shows around the world.

Hollier’s work depicts a series of formidable and iconic images created entirely of text and words, in the form of verse or prose. Dubbed 'Imago Verbosa' (meaning 'An Image made of Words') by the artist, the works are individually hand painted in Acrylic, Indian Ink, or typed on a vintage typewriter. Part social commentary and part documentary, Hollier’s work literally blurs the lines between pop culture and politics and invites us to consider the power of words to influence and endure.

Works from his collection include a portrait of John F Kennedy with words from a speech he gave to The National Press Association, Gandhi with words from an essay he wrote on Non-Violent Resistance (or Satyagraha) and David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust with the words to ‘Space Oddity’. Notable pieces from his latest collection include Sir Winston Churchill, Joe Namath, Lady Gaga and Ronald Reagan, with words from his famous1987 Berlinspeech.

Hollier is also showcasing a piece typed on a vintage wide-carriage Olympia of Barack Obama with his entire 2015 Selma speech and an 8 foot square Jimi Hendrix promoting David Hollier's rise in producing large mural commissions.
